Officials of the APT were on hand to announce the event to local media at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati, the country’s central business district. Representatives from some of the country’s top newspapers and magazines were in attendance. APT Director Chris Parker, chief executive officer of online and land-based gaming company AsianLogic (which owns the Tour) talked about the APT’s Philippine leg, which will be held from May 27 to June 1, 2008. Parker, together with APT business development manager Martin Elliot, laid out the details of the event and answered questions from the press regarding various issues, such as the structure of the tournament. In addition, Parker assured those in attendance that the APT would be more than just a poker tournament as it had a humanitarian side through a celebrity charity event which promises to donate Php 400,000 to the winning celebrity’s charity of choice. The APT, according to Parker, expects about 400 poker players to attend the Philippine leg. A third of this number will be local players. After the Tour’s inaugural leg in the Philippines, similar events will be held in Macau, Asia’s gambling capital, South Korea, and Singapore. Each tournament will offer a US$1 million guaranteed prize pool. There will also be internet qualifiers which enable online players to compete with some of the world’s leading poker professionals at each live tournament.
